Design and creation of Sam Ryder’s latest single “Mountain” and the artworking of B-side single “Fought & Lost ft. Brian May”.
We were tasked to design and create the single artwork for Sam’s single “Mountain”. The brief was very open, but Sam wanted something that would stand out and would have a visual punch as big as the song itself. The song focusses on overcoming adversity and aiming for better days and a brighter tomorrow. The message of the song naturally feels personal to anyone hearing it and we encapsulated that with the use of hand-drawn type, illustrations and hand-made collage elements. The colour palette was bright and loud – encompassing the idea of focussing on positivity; a belief that Sam is so passionate about.
The design was rolled out across the single as three separate versions; Main, Acoustic and Live versions, with the backs of all three designed to fit together and create a journey. The pre-sale sign up for Mountain initially targeted the audience at Sam’s sold-out UK and Ireland tour. We created a set of 14 flyers, personalised to each venue, with unique QR codes and a hand-written message from Sam himself. The Mountain creative was then rolled out across all of Sam’s social channels.
The B-side to “Mountain”, “Fought & Lost ft. Brian May” followed straight after. Being such a stripped back and powerful song, it was agreed that the single design should focus purely on Sam. A stunning portrait photo was taken by Sam’s team, which we artworked into the finished design, complete with Sam’s hand-written text.

Sam’s and his team asked us to design and develop a new website for Sam. Whilst his current site was technically fit-for-purpose, it didn’t fully engage with his fans and was quite passive. We created a bespoke site that was designed to be an immersive experience for his fans, complete with rollover sound effects for a guitar competition, along with samples of new songs. The brief was to create a journey through ‘Mountain’ to discover what’s on the other (B-)side. The site was launched in-time for the pre-sale of “Fought & Lost ft. Brian May”, with outlinks to Sam’s CRM system.
Going forward, the site will fully integrate the e-Commerce merch store, music and upcoming shows and tours. The opening page will continue to mirror Sam’s current singles and create an immersive experience for fans.
Naturally, Sam is an exciting client and one that we are continuing to work with.
